FAQs

Friday, April 3rd, 2009

Do I need to have a partner to join a class?

No, you are not required to have a partner to join a class. In fact partners are rotated during the class so you get to dance with different people.

What do I wear when I come to class?

Wear something comfortable that doesn’t restrict your from moving. Wear shoes that don’t have rubber bottom. Don’t wear sneakers. Your shoes need to allow you to slide on a wood floor.

You may want to consider buying dance shoes. They are specifically designed for dancing because the bottom is smooth and flexible. You will need a special brush to clean the bottom of your shoes if you want to have them longer.

For the ladies dance shoes are even more important because they hold your ankle, which makes it even easier to dance. You should not wear dance shoes on the street!

Where does Silvia teach?

Silvia teaches in the Washington, DC metro area. Click here for more information on group and private salsa lessons locations.

How to Redeem a Gift Certificate?

If you are the receiver of a certificate, please contact Silvia to schedule your private lesson.

What is Salsa With Silvia Trick Of The Week?

The “Trick Of The Week” videos are designed to give you a new step, partnering technique and or a styling tip every week. As you watch these videos in order, you will learn something new with each video. Eventually we will start doing more and more complicated turn patters, so stick around and enjoy!

Go ahead and subscribe on Salsa With Silvia’s YouTube Channel and you will get a new free instructional video every week.

These videos will be stored on the channel as well as on the Trick Of The Week page so you can always go back and refer to them.

Why should I register for the Salsa With Silvia Blog?

When you register (See the Register button on the right on the Home page), you will get updates for new classes, new videos, new products, etc.

Also by registering, you will be allowed to post questions and comments, which Silvia will very much appreciate in order to make the web site better.

I have taken some salsa classes in the past. How do I know what level I should begin from?

In that case you are encouraged to attend one of the drop-in classes on Sunday (scroll down to the Give It A Shot class). These classes are for students from all levels. Silvia will then determine your level and will tell you what class would be best for you.

I am an advanced dancer and would like to perform. How do I join the performance team?

You will need to contact Silvia and schedule and audition. Most probably you will be ask to attend a drop-in Sunday class (scroll down to the Give It A Shot class) and Silvia will tell you if you are ready to join the performance group.

How do I know which size dance shoes I wear?

In general regular dance shoes run half a size smaller than your street shoes. So if you wear size 6 1/2, you would be a size 6 in dance shoes.

Sneakers are the opposite. We recommend you get half a size bigger than your street shoes.
